Promoting Adaptive Livelihods and Augmenting Quality of Life for Fisher Folk in and around Loktak Lake in Manipur.


Sustainable Options for Uplifting Livelihood (SOUL) programme has been implemented by IGSSS since 2013. SOUL has been focusing on improving the livelihood status of rural poor families by reducing their vulnerability and increasing the food security through judicious utilization of natural resources (land, water and forest) and other livelihood assets and by promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The proposed third phase will focus on sustainability of the local institutions developed and withdrawal processes therein. Transfer of responsibilities to community based organizations would be instrumental in carrying forward the sustainable development models implemented over the last 5 years.

Key Achievements:

  1. About 37.57% of the total families have access to credit, due to the project intervention
  2. Around 46,672 families with increased food security
  3. Approximately,48,880 families with access to various national and state specific social security benefits
  4. 19232 families using modern technologies
  5. 32850 families using traditional seed

Developmental works of Scheduled caste areas, Women and Child rights, Health, Livelihood, Land & NRM, Rights and entitlements, and sustainable agriculture.

About PRDA

It was originated from the Local Youth Club, ‘The Ishok Makha Young Development Club (IMYDC) which was formed by some like-minded and social services-oriented local leaders on 13th November, 1988.
