LOKTAK BASIN ECO-SYSTEM: INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR RIVERS

Observed International Rivers Day on 14th March 2018 at Liklai Karong, Yangoi Achouba, Loktak at the theme – Restore the River line System of Loktak Lake organised by ALLAFUM. The program is done at the northern part of the loktak, beside the Nambul River attending 68 women and 57 men including resource person. O. Kokpha Singh preside the program and Oinam Rajen Singh, secretary ALLAFUM gave the well come and key note address, Salam Rajesh, Gangumei Kamei, Ng.Joykumar, Kasingam, Irom Rabi, Dr.RK Ranjan were the talkers. The talkers’ access 70 to 75 percent of the world’s river is disturbed by mankind as here Chakpi river and others 36 rivers along with Khordak river are disturbed by Dam and other encroachment. LDA diverted the flow of Nambul river inside the Loktak itself which bring down 90 percent of waste making the deposition in the different area.

It was originated from the Local Youth Club, ‘The Ishok Makha Young Development Club (IMYDC) which was formed by some like-minded and social services-oriented local leaders on 13th November, 1988.
