Earthquake in Manipur,impact of the tremor in the focus areas of Bishnupur District

Assessment/ Intervention of PRDA (NDMT) to the impact of the Earthquake in Bishnupur District, Manipur State, India
The Earthquake that took place in Manipur has its impact in Bishnupur as well. According to the PRDA‘s Natural Disaster Management team – Longjam Suranjoy, M. Bilkee, Th. Bimol Kumar Singh, L. Kunjabihari, Solomon Golmei and Jagat Okram, the assessment program of the Earthquake has been started from 5:15 AM. The First Report from the team states that, In Upokpi Khunou, Bishnupur District a woman, S. Ranjita Devi aged about 26 year got spinal injury and Left foot ankle dislocation, her husband Soibam Bishwarjit Singh (27) also injured in his left foot, house walls of Khwarakpham Robindro Singh (56) collapsed and due to the impact another house’s wall belongs to Soibam Samungou Singh aged about 55 years to the eastern side of Robindro’s house was also was also collapsed, Due to the impact another house which belongs to Thockchom Brajabidhu Singh aged about 43 years was also collapsed. One, Noren Singh a BSF Personnel got a cut injury in his nasal bone. Moreover in Ngakchroupokpi Village, Bishnupur District, Pillars of two Community Halls were cracked and a young boy, Oinam Rohit Singh aged about 12 years old son of Oinam Manglemjao Singh was inside his bedroom when the partition wall collapsed due to the disaster and miraculously escaped the fatality by getting a minor injury however he is still suffering from breathing problem, PRDA NDMT gave first aid and given medical aid to the boy and right now he is with his parents at their residence. In Irengbam Maning Leikai, Bishnupur District, the house’s walls of Irengbam Mikhu Singh aged about 57 and Irengbam Kanhai Singh aged about 55 were also collapsed due to the tremor. In Nambol, Bishnupur District, Suraj (male) Aged about 40 years, a sweeper of Bethel English School, Nambol got Back bones and Ribs injury, a student girl of the same school, Chanchan aged about 10 years got eyelid injury, Pekha aged about 11 years a girl student of the same school got head injury and she received three stitches on her head. Longjam Netajit Singh (male) aged about 42 years was injured in the head and was referred to RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Science) Imphal. Some of his properties were also reportedly damaged

Bishnupur Women Bazaar Sheds are also damaged by the Tremor though there is no casualty so far as it shook the Sheds early in the morning when the women vendors are still at their houses. However the fear of an aftershock is still with the women vendors. Now the Bazaar Sheds are closed and Security personal are keeping strict vigil to avoid any eventuality in the Bazaar as there is still possibility of Aftershock of the tremor. Government Schools, community halls, private residences’ windows porch got cracked and some of the partition walls are also collapsed.

According to other reliable information the death toll rises to 6 persons in different parts of Manipur, a part of the Historic Kwairamband Women Bazaar (Ima Keithel) in Imphal is also damaged by the Tremor. Hotel Nirmala and the neighbouring building are leaning and there is still a possibility of collapsing the said buildings. There is also a report of property damaged worth Crore of rupees by the high intensity of the Tremor.
